Ketos Mosaic

3rd century BC
Origin: Kaulonia (near modern-day Monsterace, Italy)
Location: Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia di Reggio Calabria

Ancient Greek images of the ketos monster were typically like this one, with a long, narrow snout, a coiled body, and a split tail. Paleo-Christian artists followed this model in their images of the creature that swallowed Jonah.
